FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA – Official Opposition Foreign Affairs critic, Tony Clement, today denounced North Korea’s recent nuclear testing at its Punggye-ri site, and called on Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons program.

“I encourage the Government of Canada to stand alongside our allies in condemning North Korea’s continued dangerous provocations and violations of United Nations Security Council Resolutions. The regime in Pyongyang continues to be a threat to world peace, and its self-imposed isolation from the rest of the world only serves to further oppress its own citizens.”

The Conservative caucus continues to decry the severe injustices and human rights abuses inflicted by the North Korean dictatorship, including the imprisonment of Canadian citizen Rev. Hyeon Soo Lim, and supports ongoing sanctions against the rogue state.
