Stan Darling Environmental Education Fund

Stan Darling (B-1911, D-2004)

Stan Darling was born in Callandar in 1911 and moved to Burk’s Falls in 1938, where he opened the Stan Darling Insurance Inc, which is still operating today.

Stan had a keen interest in serving the public and another in caring for our environment. He was a municipal councillor for four years, a Reeve for 26 years and in 1972 was elected for the first time to the House of Commons where he remained for five more elections until his retirement at the end of the 34th Parliament of Canada in 1992.

During his time in Parliament, Stan championed the cause of saving us from acid rain. He attended conventions in South America and elsewhere and was always in the forefront of the issue.  Arguably, without Stan Darling pushing hard, the Acid Rain Treaty may never have been signed.

In honour of Stan’s life of achievement, Tony Clement has decided to sponsor the Stan Darling Environmental Education Fund.
