PARRY SOUND, Ontario, June 20, 2009 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced a FedNor investment of $82,500 to create three Youth Internship placements in Parry Sound.
“Our government is investing in employment opportunities that encourage our youth to build their future here in Northern Ontario,” said Minister Clement. “This investment is an excellent example of our ongoing commitment to strengthen the local economy by investing in the people and businesses of this region.”
The FedNor Youth Internship Program (YIP) is a valuable tool the Government of Canada uses to help talented, young graduates gain the skills they need to secure permanent employment in the North.
Local organizations receiving FedNor YIP funding of $27,500 are the Town of Parry Sound; Community Living Parry Sound; and the West Parry Sound Museum.
“Creating meaningful employment opportunities is vital to stemming the flow of youth out-migration in Parry Sound and across Northern Ontario,” said Richard Adams, Mayor of Parry Sound. “On behalf of our community and the local organizations benefiting from this funding, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the continued support from Minister Clement and FedNor.”
By supporting people, communities and business through its programs and services, FedNor is opening doors and building futures for a prosperous Northern Ontario.
