May 28, 2009—Today, Tony Clement, Minister of Industry Canada and Member of Parliament for Parry Sound-Muskoka, announced upgrades to roads and watermains that will help the residents of Huntsville and Muskoka prepare for the G 8.
“I’m really happy to see the development that is happening around the G8,” said Minister Clement. “It’s great for our communities because we can benefit from the upgrades to roads, bridges and waterways for years to come.
Through the G8 legacy infrastructure fund, the Town of Huntsville will receive $2.4 million from the federal government for the reconstruction and resurfacing of Deerhurst Drive and Ski Club Road.
“Upgrades around Deerhurst are essential to making sure our Town will shine when we host the summit,” said Mayor Doughty. “When you are working on a project the size of the G8, every little step counts.”
The District of Muskoka will receive $1,800,000 from the federal government for a watermain and for the resurfacing of Muskoka Road 23.
“We’re always happy when the government pitches in to help upgrade our district roads and watermains,” said Chairman Gord Adams. “It’s great that Tony is working so hard to get the money flowing so our projects can start as soon as possible.”
“It’s the beginning of construction season and the money is flowing so that we can ensure these types of upgrades can be finished in time,” said Minister Clement. “These kinds of investments are important to create jobs in the short term, but they will also help Parry Sound-Muskoka put our best foot forward when we welcome the world in 2010.”
