Clement and Constituents convince Tony Martin that Parry Sound-Muskoka is Part of Northern Ontario
Today, FEDNOR Minister Tony Clement was pleased to respond to Sault Ste Marie MP Tony Martin's Report on Consultations on C-451. Clement, along with over 10,000 people who signed his Stop C-451 petition, finally convinced Martin that Parry Sound- Muskoka belongs in Northern Ontario.
Clement also agrees that predictable funding and local decision making are important to Northern Ontario. If fact, Clement set up a FEDNOR Advisory Board in 2007 and established stable budgeting in 2006.
"It has taken almost a year and over 10,000 voices to convince Tony Martin that Parry Sound- Muskoka belongs in Northern Ontario," said Clement. "I hope it won't take as long to show Tony that more money poured into bureaucracy isn't going to benefit business development in the region".
As many of the community leaders from Clement's riding told Martin March
31- "if it's not broken don't fix it". "What the residents of Parry Sound- Muskoka need is real dollars spent on business development, not on government office space and more red tape." For these reasons, Clement continues to oppose Bill C-451.
The residents of Parry Sound- Muskoka, and indeed from other Northern communities have told Martin what they want: predictable and stable funding, local decision making, and less red tape. Clement has delivered on these and will continue to stand up for Parry Sound- Muskoka and all of Northern Ontario.
