Clement announced $120,000 for 2008 Festival of the Sound 50 per cent increase over 2007
The Festival of the Sound will receive a funding increase of 50 per cent for this year’s festival, Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement announced today.
“I am very pleased and excited to let Festival organizers and all the many thousands of people who enjoy the Festival each year know that Arts Presentation Canada will be contributing $120,000 to the Festival’s budget this year. This is a 50 per cent increase from the $80,000 received last year, and I am certain it will be put to excellent use,” said Clement.
The Festival of the Sound is now in its 29th season. It offers professional chamber music and jazz on the shores of Georgian Bay in a three week summer festival which has earned an international reputation for its tradition of bringing together national and international musicians. 60 concerts will be presented in 2008.
"We are extremely grateful to Arts Presentation Canada for supporting the Festival of the Sound (FOTS) as we continue to establish ourselves as one of the most recognized cultural events -- not only in Parry Sound-Muskoka -- but also in North America," said FOTS Executive Director Margaret Boyd.
"The additional funding will help us to enhance our offerings with such developments as the new Festival Chamber Orchestra this year. As we head into our 30th anniversary season in 2009, the Festival of the Sound remains proud of our tradition of presenting exceptional classical music performances at the Charles W. Stockey Centre in Parry Sound each July and August."
Minister Clement will be in attendance at the Festival’s “Prelude” on June 7th to formally announce the funding increase.
