Gravenhurst, Ontario - Today, Tony Clement, MP for Parry Sound- Muskoka was joined by Gravenhurst Mayor John Klinck and Bracebridge city councillors for the presentation of the Gas Tax Fund Transfer cheques.
Based on population figures, in 2008/2009 Gravenhurst will receive just over $177,000 and Bracebridge just over $223,000.
"With the Gas Tax funding announced here today, Gravenhurst and Bracebridge will have the long-term assurance of flexible funding to address priorities as local leaders see them", said Mr. Clement.
"This fund will help communities across our country, both large and small, to better plan and finance long-term infrastructure needs".
In Budget 2008, Canada's Government announcement that the Gas Tax Fund will become permanent, allowing municipalities all across Canada to count on a base of $2 billion per year in funding for infrastructure.
"I understand that small communities such as ours rely on this funding for things like bridges, roadways and maintenance", continued Mr. Clement. "Our government acknowledges that the Gas Tax Fund is critical to seeing our communities grow and prosper".
The Gas Tax Fund is helping to build communities by providing predictable funding in support of municipal infrastructure that enhances the environment and quality of life. In addition, it benefits communities by providing funding to increase the capacity of communities to undertake long term planning.
