The Honourable Tony Clement, MP for Parry Sound-Muskoka was at the Salvation Army in Bracebridge on Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 to assist local businesses and residents in raising funds for the Haiti earthquake relief fund.
Please see below for excerpts of his remarks:
“For so many years the Salvation Army has reached out to assist Men and Women in need worldwide. And once again when a part of our global community is in need, facing a disaster of unimaginable proportions, the Salvation Army is there.
Since the earthquake in Haiti, the residents of Muskoka have responded with their hearts to provide what they could to help.
Canadians are compassionate people, our residents and local businesses in Muskoka are once again raising money for disaster relief efforts. To build on this momentum, this Thursday; Moose FM will host a Haitian Relief radio-thon sponsored by Muskoka Lumber where we will able to donate to the relief fund. And as a great show of corporate compassion Muskoka Lumber has generously agreed to match every donation pledged during the radio-thon.
Every donation you make counts to ease the pain and suffering of the people of Haiti during this challenging time.
Our government has been involved from the beginning and has shown real leadership in our response to the disaster recovery effort. The Government of Canada will match the generosity of individual Canadians who give to eligible Canadian charitable organizations in support of humanitarian and recovery efforts.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to express my profound sorrow and deepest sympathy for the men, women and children of Haiti who continue to worry about their own safety. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones in this terrible disaster.”
