Minister Tony Clement applauds Canada receiving Approved Destination Status from China
Ottawa, ON – The Honourable Tony Clement, Member of Parliament for Parry Sound – Muskoka is pleased that the Government of China granted Canada Approved Destination Status, a designation that makes it easier for Chinese nationals to visit Canada.
“Approved Destination Status will have a positive impact for the tourism industry in Parry Sound-Muskoka, specifically for Bethune House”, said MP Clement. “Chinese nationals will be able to visit and discover Canadian heritage and the ties that link our two countries together”.
Approved Destination Status allows Chinese travel agents to organize group tours to countries with the designation. This means that obtaining permission to arrange group travel to that designated country becomes easier. As a result, Canadians should see more tourists from China in the near future, which will have a positive impact on the Canadian economy.
This agreement was reached during Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s official visit to China. This designation is significant for Canada-China relations and exemplifies the mutual commitment strengthening our diplomatic and commercial ties.
