Tony Clement, MP for Parry Sound – Muskoka is pleased the Ethics Commissioner Dismisses Liberal Complaint
Ottawa - The Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner today dismissed a complaint filed by the Liberal Party of Canada regarding the Government’s communication materials to inform Canadians about Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
In November, with much publicity, and little fact to support their allegations, Michael Ignatieff’s Liberals proclaimed that the government had violated conflict of interest rules in their communication of Canadia’s Economic Action Plan. Only after they got media attention did they file a formal complaint with the Ethics Commissioner against government Ministers and Members of Parliament including Tony Clement, MP for Parry Sound-Muskoka.
“I am delighted that the Ethics Commissioner has thrown out this complaint and has ruled that our government was not in violation of any rules” said Clement. “I was disappointed in the Liberal Party, and their local Liberal candidate for Parry Sound – Muskoka, that they would publicly pronounce guilt in this issue before even filing a complaint with the Ethics Commissioner. That’s not being effective opposition; it’s just a cheap political stunt.”
The Liberals have not commented on the Ethics Commissioner dismissal of their complaint.
Today’s report confirms that the Liberals’ complaint was a partisan attempt to smear the government. At a time when the Canadian government is focused on working through the recession and it’s Economic Action Plan, the Liberals’ are more focused on political games.
The Government of Canada has a responsibility to communicate important initiatives and services to Canadians and will continue to do so, to ensure that Canadians can access programs that can assist them.
