Canada and Ontario partner with not-for-profit organizations to make important renovations
HUNTSVILLE, ONTARIO – Canada and Ontario today announced three investments with the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the YMCA of Greater Toronto and Community Living Huntsville that will see upgrades and improvements made to the various projects. The investment of $7,590,000 will help to create local jobs in the region.
The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals received $1,790,000 in funding for their new shelter project, a $4,200,000 contribution was made to the YMCA Camp Pine Crest that for upgrades to their facilities and the Stone School House-West Road Development of the Community Living Huntsville received $1,600,000.
“I am proud today to be jointly announcing funding for these worthwhile projects that will get shovels in the ground, create jobs, and enable these organizations to enhance their services for years to come,” said Tony Clement, MP for Parry Sound - Muskoka. “Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, our government has announced an historic number of projects to help strengthen our communities, including here in Parry Sound – Muskoka.”
“I am delighted that each of these projects will benefit from the not-for-profit infrastructure funding the federal and provincial governments are providing,” said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing. “The government of Ontario is pleased to be working together with the federal government to modernize infrastructure and to strengthen the not-for-profit sector in our communities.”
The Governments of Canada and Ontario and not-for-profit organizations are each investing one-third of the total project cost. Canada’s funding is part of its new national Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, under Canada’s Economic Action Plan unveiled in January 2009. Ontario’s matching contribution is provided through the 2009 Ontario Budget – Confronting the Challenge: Building Our Economic Future.
Canada and Ontario are working together to create jobs and boost the economy, while making significant investments that help communities improve their infrastructure.
