Tony Clement MP Encourages the Residents of Parry Sound-Muskoka to Donate to the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund

Parry Sound, ON – The Honourable Tony Clement, MP for Parry Sound- Muskoka encourages residents to donate to the Haiti Relief fund.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the Haitian people, as well as those who are worried about the safety and security of their loved ones.  Words cannot fully express the tragedy that the people of Haiti are experiencing as a result of this disaster” said Clement “Canada and Haiti have strong ties and it is for this reason that I encourage anyone who can offer assistance to those affected by the earthquake to please do so”.

The Government of Canada will match the contributions of individual Canadians to eligible Canadian Charitable organizations, in support of humanitarian and recovery efforts in Haiti, to a total of $50 million.

“We must stand ready to provide any necessary assistance to the people of Haiti during this time of need” said Clement.  “I would like to offer my most sincere condolences to those who have lost friends and family in this terrible event”.

Canada has shown early leadership in responding to this disaster recovery effort by sending a Canadian Forces DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team) reconnaissance team to Haiti with urgent supplies and expert personnel to assist with the situation.   Deployments of emergency supplies, personnel, and search and rescue helicopters have also been sent to Haiti with further deployments as the situation evolves.  Two Canadian naval ships loaded with food, bottled water, medical equipment and humanitarian supplies have also been sent to provide crucial support.
