The Honourable Tony Clement, MP for Parry Sound – Muskoka is pleased that the long-gun registry is one step closer to being abolished
Ottawa - Today members of the House of Commons supported a bill in 2nd reading to scrap the long-gun registry.
“I’m very happy that the Conservative government along with members of the opposition are one step closer to putting an end to the failed and costly long-gun registry” said Clement “It’s about time we start focusing on real criminals and not law-abiding gun owners”.
Since first being elected in 2006, the Conservative government has been working to end the wasteful long-gun registry and instead focus on real criminals and not law abiding farmers and hunters. Unfortunately, until today, the opposition parties continually blocked our efforts.
“Canadians put their trust in our government because of our commitment to get tough on crime and to make our streets safer” said Clement “I’m happy that members of the opposition voted with the interests of their constituents and voted against the belief of their party leaders to eliminate the long-gun registry”.
“During the 2006 and 2008 elections, I made a promise to the constituents of Parry Sound-Muskoka to vote against the long-gun registry” said Clement “I am pleased to have kept my promise”.
