Harper Government Invests to Create Jobs and Stimulate Economic Growth in the Parry Sound Region
March 17, 2012
PARRY SOUND, Ontario, March 17, 2012 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister for FedNor, today announced a Government of Canada investment of nearly $900,000 to help create jobs and support business development and growth in the Parry Sound region.
“The Government of Canada works with local stakeholders, such as the Parry Sound Area Community Business and Development Centre, to help build strong, sustainable communities here in Northern Ontario and across the nation,” said Minister Clement. “This investment will help create jobs, stimulate business development and growth at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport and help local entrepreneurs find the resources they need to be successful.”
FedNor funding of $495,450 will support infrastructure development at the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport industrial site. This investment will help attract private sector investment to the area, as well as enable business expansion and industrial land development. The remaining $378,750 will support the ongoing operations of the Parry Sound Area Community Business and Development Centre (CBDC) for a one-year period, and allow the organization to fund a variety of community-based economic development projects. The Parry Sound Area CBDC is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations in Northern Ontario funded through the federal government’s Community Futures Program. They offer business development and access to capital services for small and medium-sized enterprises, and support local community economic development activities.
“We are proud to work at the local level to identify and invest in initiatives that create jobs and help strengthen our region,” said Bryan Tennant, Chair of the Parry Sound Area CBDC. “Our ongoing partnership with FedNor continues to deliver positive economic results for the businesses and communities we serve.”
Funding for these projects was provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development and Community Futures Programs, which support initiatives that strengthen community economic development, enhance business growth and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
